How does the serial interface (COM1) look like? What specifications does it have?

The serial interface of the GP4100 Series is a two-piece 9-pin terminal connector for both GP-4105x (RS-232C type) and GP-4106x (RS-422/485 type), located on the right side of the unit.

Important

GP-4104 is a Ethernet model and doesn't have the serial interface.

(Example) GP-4105G (RS-232C type)

Performance specifications are as follows.
ModelPerformance Specification
GP4105RS-232C

- Asynchronous transmission
- Data length: 7 or 8 bit
- Stop bit: 1 or 2 bit
- Parity: None, odd or even
- Data transmission speed: 2,400 bps to 115.2 kbps
- Connector: 2-piece terminal block 9 pin

Important
-

For the cable diagram and communication settings for device connection, please refer to "GP-Pro EX Device/PLC Connection Manual."

-The RS-232C and RS-422/485 are not isolated. In particular, when the device connected to is not isolated, please be sure to connect a SG pin of the GP4100 and a SG pin of the device. If not, the circuit of RS-232C/RS-422/RS-485 might be damaged.
-

In the RS-232C and RS-422/485, SG (Signal Ground) and FG (Frame Ground) are internally connected. For the connection of a device with SG, please be sure to design the system not to induce a short-circuit loop.

The details of connector pins are as follows.
RS-232C Type (GP4105), RS-422/485 Type (GP4106)
MEMO

In the RS-422/485 type, a terminating resistance can be set with a DIP switch (4 bits) on the rear side of a unit. All bits are OFF in the factory default setting (no terminating resistance set). Please set a terminating resistance when needed after confirming the necessary one for connection to a device in use (PLC). For details, please refer to "GP-Pro EX Device/PLC Connection Manual."
