Transferring a Project with the File System

Using external storage, you can transfer the project file from a PC to the display unit, or from the display unit to another display unit.

For file system transfers, use the BML file (package.BML) generated by the project. Save the generated package.BML file in external storage to transfer the project without using a USB or Ethernet cable.

You can also transfer the project by using the BML file saved on the FTP server.

For information about the types of external storage that display units can use, refer to the following.

External Storage

Important:

To prevent tampering with the project file on the display unit, enable user authentication for project file transfer operations.
Please take precautions as transfer will not be possible if you forget the user name or password.

Note:

  • For information on models that support this transfer method, see the following. Supported Model/Feature List
  • Use Hardware Configuration object on the Screen during screen editing for transferring the project. Hardware Configuration
  • You cannot transfer the project during simulation.
  • It may take some time to transfer, if the size of the BML file is large.
  • Preserve user management and Ethernet settings on the display unit with the [Keep Runtime Data] setting. For information, see the following. Keep Runtime Data after Transferring

For steps to transfer project, refer to the following;

Transferring from PC to Display Unit

  1. Start the screen editing software on the PC and open the project that you want to transfer (PC to Display Unit).

  2. In Project Explorer window, go to [System Architecture] and click [Target01].

  3. In Properties window, go to [Function] tab ➞ [Basic] tab and acknowledge that [Type] in [Transfer Method] is [File System].

  4. In [Project File], click icon and select the folder where package.BML file is generated.

  5. On the Application toolbar, click icon.

Note: Before transferring, make sure the display unit you are transferring to is the same display unit type as defined in the screen editing software.

  6. The [Download Manager] dialog box displays the status. When the transfer is complete, the file package.BML is generated in the destination folder.
If the destination folder is outside external storage, copy the file to the external storage folder.

Note: Before the [Download Manager] dialog box is displayed, a dialog box showing the validation and file generation progress is displayed. Additionally, depending on the size of the project, it may take some time before the [Download Manager] dialog box appears.

  7. Close the [Download Manager] dialog box after the transfer is complete.

  8. Turn on the display unit.

(When Using SP5000 Series Open Box (Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Model))

From the Program menu, click [BLUE Runtime] > [BLUE Runtime (Run as Administrator)].

(When Using IPC Series or PC/AT)

From the Program menu, right-click [BLUE Runtime] and select [Run as administrator].

Note: If you cannot select [Run as administrator], please contact your system administrator.

  9. Insert the external storage in the display unit.

Note: When using SP5000 Series Open Box, IPC Series, or PC/AT, copy package.BML to the path typed in [Destination Folder (SD Card)] and [Destination Folder (USB Storage)].
[Destination Folder (SD Card)] and [Destination Folder (USB Storage)] are located in [System Architecture] ➞ [Target01] ➞ [Function] tab ➞ [Options] sub tab ➞ [Preferences].

  10. Open Hardware Configuration screen and touch [USB]/[SD]/[Local Storage] in [Download from].

    Note:

    • For information about Hardware Configuration, see the following.
      About Hardware Configuration
Instead of using Hardware Configuration, you can use the [External Device] operation. For information about [External Device] operation, see the following.
      External Device
    • [Local Storage] option is available on ST6000 Series, ST6000 2nd Gen Series, or STM6000 Series only.
Use a File Manager object or [File Management] operation to copy the package.BML to local storage before using this operation.
Instead of Hardware Configuration, you can use the [Local Storage] operation. For information about the [Local Storage] operation, see the following.
      Local Storage

After the project has been transferred successfully, the display unit restarts and runs the transferred project.

Transferring from Display Unit to Other Display Unit

To transfer a project from display unit (A) to display unit (B):

  1. Turn on the display unit (A).

  2. Insert the external storage in the display unit.

Note: When using SP5000 Series Open Box, IPC Series, or PC/AT, package.BML is generated at the path entered in the [Destination Folder (SD Card)] and [Destination Folder (USB Storage)] fields.
[Destination Folder (SD Card)] and [Destination Folder (USB Storage)] are located in [System Architecture] ➞ [Target01] ➞ [Function] tab ➞ [Options] sub tab ➞ [Preferences].

  3. Open Hardware Configuration screen and touch [USB]/[SD]/[Local Storage] in [Upload to].
The file package.BML is generated in the external storage.

    Note:
