External Device Settings

Use the ladder software (TIA Portal [STEP7 V11-V20]) to configure the External Device communication settings. Please refer to the External Device manual for details.

 

  1. Start up the ladder software.

  2. From the [Start] menu, select [Create new project] to create the project.

  3. From [Devices & networks], select [Add new device].

  4. Select the External Device, and enter the correct version of the firmware. Click [OK]. You can check for the firmware version of the External Device in online mode.

NOTE

 

  1. In the [Project tree], from the External Device select [Device configuration].

  1. Click [Device view] tab, and from the External Device select [PROFINET interface_1].

  2. Click [Add new subnet] and enter the following settings for the network.

  3. Add data block.

  4. Select the appropriate device and click the [Compile] icon.

  5. Save the project and then download to the External Device.

NOTE

Settings for Secure Communication

SP5000 Series Open Box (Windows 10 IoT Enterprise model), IPC, and PC/AT support secure communication.

Use the ladder software and BLUE to set the following properties.
Ladder software: Select the [Only allow secure PG/PC and HMI communication] check box.
BLUE: In the [Equipment] property window, select the [Use Secure Communication] property.

Displays other than those listed above do not support secure communication. In such cases, clear the [Only allow secure PG/PC and HMI communication] check box in the ladder software. When this check box is selected, the Display is unable to communicate with External Devices.

The following table shows the External Devices that support secure communication.

S7-1200 firmware V4.7 or later
S7-1500 firmware V4.0 or later

Secure communication only

S7-1200 firmware earlier than V4.7
S7-1500 firmware earlier than V4.0
